MEET KATHRYN GRUBE, MID, NCIDQ, LEED AP

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, INTERIOR DESIGN

​

Published, certified, and accredited Interior design educator and practicing interior design professional. Fifteen years commercial and residential design, sales/estimating, project management, and operations experience in residential / commercial interior design and construction. Specializations in color design and the commercial casework, millwork, and residential cabinetry facets of design. Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Interior Design accomplished  in 1998, and terminal Master of Interior Design degree 2012.

 

Passionate about striving for excellence, inspiring learning, and promoting strong attention to detail in both design and presentation. Fluid in contract negotiation and all five phases of design from conception to completion. Proficient in construction / contract documentation, blueprints, specifications, and other contract documents. Enthusiasm for changing interior environments that enrich quality of life.

 

Research focus on utilizing the natural and sustainable power of color to enhance and improve learning, healing, and morale for user benefit and well being.  Spotlights fall on the impacts and design capabilities of color, sustainability, and evidence-based design to better well-being. 

Teaching Philosophy

By using a combination of collaborative instruction techniques with positive, yet constructive feedback, goals are to inspire, motivate, and generate critical thinking skills in  students that will best prepare them for success in actual professional practice / industry situations.

Strategies include employing effective learning / communication methods including hands-on task completion, visual imagery, innovation, and site visitation methods. Each of these strategies, either used individually or in combination with each other, can promote inspiration,  generate creativity, stimulate active involvement and participation, and drive excellence in design technique, practice, and understanding.
